An Easy Way To Cook Healthier Meals
With this effective nonstick coating, there’s really no need to use oil or butter. Some buyers do prefer to use a little oil nonetheless. Oil can be sprayed on with a non-aerosol spray bottle, reducing the amount of oil used and by default, consumed. That means deploying Gotham nonstick pans in your kitchen is a healthier option for you and your family. After all, if you can avoid much of the oil and butter previously used to keep food from sticking – why not?
Another feature that makes Gotham Steel a healthier cookware option is that they utilize a combination of titanium and ceramic as a safe-to-use non-toxic coating. It is completely free of PFOA, PFOS, lead and cadmium. So using this on a day-to-day basis provides the peace of mind of knowing that is a better, safer option over some of the other competing brands of nonstick pans out there.
A Capable Nonstick Coating – With Some Limitations
The nonstick coating Gotham Steel provides is relatively strong and durable. It’s strong enough that the manufacturer suggests it can withstand metal utensils including whisks, spoons, spatulas and even electric beaters. But we urge you not to go that route. It’s always safer with any nonstick cookware to use only silicone, bamboo or wooden utensils. Avoiding metal and hard plastic will help protect the nonstick coating so you’ll get more use over a longer haul from your pans.
Gotham’s nonstick cooking surface is unique. It’s made up of three separate layers of nonstick coating which has been reinforced with both titanium and ceramic. It’s this interior finish that allows everything cooked in one of these Gotham Steel pans to simply slide onto a serving plate with ease.
Cleanup is often quick and easy. But occasionally, you might have to let your pans soak for a while. All Gotham Steel pans are marketed as being “dishwasher safe” – which makes cleanup even easier. And many previous buyers are fine doing just that. The cost is low enough that some choose convenience over longevity. They can simply replace their set when its time to do so. But with nonstick surfaces of any kind, we recommend hand-washing your pans. There’s a strong likelihood that by doing so – and avoiding the dishwasher altogether – you’ll likely extend the life of your Gotham Steel pans – and quite possibly by a considerable margin.
Not For Induction Stoves
These Gotham Steel cookware sets can be used on most types of stovetops, with the exception of induction stoves. That means you’re good to go with any electric, gas, ceramic, or glass-top stove. And according to Gotham, these pots and pans can safely be used in an oven – up to 500°F. But again, this probably isn’t the best way to use nonstick coated cookware. If you want your pans to last for years, we don’t recommend placing them in the oven.
Stylish Handles That Stay Cool
The handles on these pots and pans are ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in either your left or right hand. These Gotham pans have a Y-shaped end where the handle meets the pan. Not only does this look great but it helps the handles stay cool as the heat is better able to escape.
Uniform Heat Distribution For Easier Cooking
As for the pans themselves – they heat up quickly and consistently. Most importantly, the heat is distributed evenly thanks to the aluminum composition and unique spiral bottom design that spans the entire surface.
Safe Nonstick Cooking
All of the Gotham Steel pots and pans we recommend are PFOS, PFOA, and PTFE-free. This makes this brand of home kitchen cookware among the safest nonstick pots and pans on the market today.
Gotham Steel skillets are lightweight like aluminum but cook perfectly like cast-iron. When it comes to cleanup of these nonstick pans (versus cast-iron) – it is dramatically easier to clean Gotham pans when they are used in the correct manner and are well cared for.
Having a complete set of compatible pots and pans provides multiple functions and better all-around usage. If you’re been using the same random collection of odd pots and pans for years, you can now get a matching set at a price that’s easily affordable for most folks. We’re willing to bet that you will be pleasantly surprised by the efficient cooking and cleanup, as well as the value you get from either complete set.
Solid Products – Solid Value
As one buyer stated “these products are insanely good”. Gotham steel pans also deliver impressive overall value. And if you care for them, they should continue to look great, even if they get used on a day-to-day basis.
Gotham still offers a lifetime warranty for the original owner. And that’s reassuring. But remember that nonstick pots and pans are a different breed. If you treat these like stainless steel or cast iron cookware, washing these in a sink filled with knives and forks, or stacking them carelessly in a drawer, they’re going to get damaged and your warranty won’t cover it.
As with any no cook nonstick cookware you need to take good care in the use, storage and cleaning of these products. And the greater your degree of care – the longer your Gotham Steel pans and pots will tend to deliver a satisfying experience.
Some Simple Recommendations
One of the things we recommend with Gotham (or ANY nonstick pans) is to never cook on high heat. That’s a big no-no. If you’re cooking anything dry (without any butter, oil, broth, or water) make sure you keep the pan on a lower heat. It’s best to use quality silicone utensils and make sure to never have any metal or hard plastic present when you’re washing these pans in the sink. Use an empty sink and keep the forks, knives and spoons away are they could easily damage the nonstick surface.
Be careful when storing these pots and pans. Remember it’s the inside surface that you want to protect and by stacking them, you can easily chip or damage that valuable coating. You could safely stack them as long as you use a tea towel or some kind of soft spacer in between.
Are these Gotham Steel sets the best quality cookware you can get?
No – they are not. If you want top-of-the-line cookware – it’s here. But they are well-made (given their price point) and buyers are overwhelmingly satisfied with the value they provide.
Wash With Mild Soap and Water
Before using, wash your pots and pans out with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry completely. It’s a good idea to completely avoid aerosol sprays on any nonstick surface -Gotham steel pots and pans included. If you use any oil, make sure no residue remains in your pans after cooking, or it will eventually diminish your cooking experience.
Minimum Oil = Healthier Cooking
One option that can help you dramatically lower your cooking oil consumption is to use a manual pump spray bottle. This allows you to mist the little oil into the pan, without overdoing it. Every tablespoon of oil (all kinds) is 120 empty calories. And since oil is one of the most processed foods, it’s probably something we should avoid more than we use. A little bit can go along way. But with Gotham Steel pans, you really don’t have to use any oil if you don’t want to. These nonstick pans are exactly that and should give you good results – without any sort of added fat. An alternate option when cooking is to add a splash of water or broth to prevent sticking.
Be careful how you handle these pans. The ceramic coating is thin – as it is on virtually all nonstick surfaces. Even tapping the side of the pan with a utensil may be enough to damage the finish.
The Verdict
If you’re looking for a solid cookware set you can count on – at a reasonable price – you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything better than these Gotham Steel Pans. For the budget conscious shopper, Gotham is an excellent choice. With more than 30 million units sold, plus such a high customer satisfaction rating, you can rest assured that you’re getting a cookware set that’s a reliable performer. Take good care of your cookware and it will continue to serve you well.
